How to Audition

  1. Review the schedule and family commitment.
Read the show’s audition, callback, rehearsal, and performance dates before making plans. Check school, travel, sports, and family commitments, and list known conflicts on the audition paperwork. Review the Production Manual (PDF) for parent participation and production expenses.

  2. Open your CYT family account.
Use your existing family account to sign in. If you are new to CYT, choose Create New Account from the family account login to begin. Make sure a headshot is uploaded for each student who will audition.

  3. Register the student for a class.
CYT’s audition signup becomes available in the family account after class registration. Follow the current session’s registration instructions.

  4. Reserve an audition appointment.
In your family account, select the student, choose Auditions, and then New Audition Appointment. Follow the available prompts for the current production and time slot. Review the production’s instructions and your confirmation email.

  5. Prepare your song and monologue.
Prepare a one-minute song with a backing track without lead vocals, plus a memorized monologue from the production’s provided materials. CYT’s FAQ recommends choosing a song that is not from the show you are auditioning for. Follow the current show’s specific instructions and practice your material.

  6. Complete the audition paperwork.
Find the current forms and monologue materials on the show’s page and its PDFs. Fill out the forms with a parent or guardian, attach the requested photo, and include all known rehearsal conflicts. Bring the completed paperwork to auditions.

  7. Upload your music.
Check your audition confirmation email for the music-upload link. Use the instructions provided for your production and make sure the backing track has no lead vocals.

  8. Be ready to sing, act, and dance.
The audition includes singing, acting, and a dance component. Bring clothing suitable for movement. Follow the production’s arrival instructions, and support the other students in your audition group.

  9. Check your account for callbacks and updates.
The artistic team may invite students to callbacks when it needs to see more for particular roles. Check your CYT account and production communications for updates.

Unable to attend in person?
CYT’s FAQ allows advance arrangements for video auditions. Contact the production coordinator before making plans. Video submissions must be arranged in advance and submitted before the first audition night; do not assume a submission has been accepted.
