Description

A great costume doesn’t just look right—it needs to fit, function, and withstand the demands of the stage!

In this hands-on course, students will learn practical sewing skills by exploring how to alter, repair, and
adapt garments for theatrical productions and everyday use. From hemming pants and skirts to adjusting
fit, repairing seams, replacing closures, and solving common costume problems, students will discover
how small changes can make a big difference.

Whether you’re new to sewing or looking to build on skills you already have, this class offers opportunities
to learn through demonstrations, guided practice, and hands-on projects. Students may work with practice
materials, garments they bring from home, and theatrical costume repairs when available.

No previous course or sewing experience is required—just an interest in learning and a willingness to try
something new!

By the end of the course, students will have greater confidence in assessing garments, selecting
appropriate alteration techniques, and making practical repairs that can be used in the costume shop and
beyond.
