Description

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical KIDS, a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky StiffMy Favorite YearOnce on This IslandRagtime).
Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, our narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child, who gets in trouble for thinking too many "thinks." Horton's challenge is twofold — not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!
Seussical KIDS is great fun for the whole family. Young performers will be excited to portray the characters from the popular Dr. Seuss books. This musical provides wonderful creative opportunities in terms of set design, lighting and costuming and can easily accommodate a large cast.

Campers will work all week long on the script, songs, and dances, and will put on a free show to friends and family on Friday. Please note that campers will be put in groups based on the roles they have in the show after auditions (first day of camp). They are responsible to bring water, a lunch, and a peanut free snack. Attendance is important as the rest of the cast will be relying on them to help put on the show. If a student can not attend the show on Friday, please reconsider signing them up as they will have no opportunity to showcase what they have learned and will not be able to help support their cast in the final product.

Counselor:

Hailey Broyles

Hi, I’m Hailey and I am so excited to be returning to CYT as a teacher. I am a VCU graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and currently I am a music teacher in Spotsylvania County. I was a “CYT Kid” when I was younger and was involved in many of the productions they put on (my first being Tom Sawyer!). Music and theatre have been a passion of mine ever since and I am so excited to be sharing that love with my students.
