Class Description

Are you a fan of A Cappella groups such as Pentatonic? Or maybe heard a contemporary A Cappella from Pitch Perfect, Glee, or popular covers of famous  Musical Theatre numbers? Maybe you just want to try something new this class session, or want to tighten up your group harmony skills in a challenging and fun environment? In this advanced vocal harmony class, come learn about the history of A Cappella from it's origins to now. We will practice different styles of  A Cappella such as Barbershop and contemporary, and grow into a more well-rounded musician and singer! We will primarily focus on contemporary buy will also focus on some basic ear training and rhythm skills as well. I can't wait to see who joins this class, hear what styles of A Cappella you enjoy, learn some fabulous music, and showcase it all at the end of the 9 week session!  This is not a beginner class!  See Requirements below"
Prerequisite: Must have at least 2 year chorus experience, or 2 previous CYT harmony vocal classes! This is an advanced class and not a class for beginning harmony students. etc.

Sarah Garner

Sarah Garner is a board-certified Music Therapist who received her bachelors from Shenandoah Conservatory, and interned at “A Place to Be” in Middleburg, VA. Sarah currently works at Creative Music Academy providing private and group Music Therapy and adaptive and typical music lessons. Past Music Therapy experience include work in Assisted Living, Memory Care, Hospice Care, and work with children develepmental, cognitive, social, and mental health needs. In addition to Music Therapy, Sarah is the social media/marketing director for STEP VA and teaches classes at Polaris Dance Institute, CYT and STEP VA! The core of Sarah's philosophy in both Music Therapy and teaching lies in the belief that each person holds value and is deserving of love. With that mindset, she is passionate about advocating the message that music belongs to everyone, no matter their talent or ability!
