Class Description

When watching a music video, the experience of a song is made more powerful by seeing the music conveyed through the sense of sight.  Sign language is a very emotive, expressive and demonstrative form of communication. In this class, we will work on presenting a couple of contemporary Christian songs from TobyMac’s latest album in sign language.  We will learn the sign language translation of the lyrics, and how to use facial expressions, body language and body movement to express the various elements of the music for the enjoyment of both hearing and deaf/hard-of-hearing audiences. I’m very excited to explore the artistic and expressive side of the language with this talented group of students. No prerequisite knowledge of sign language required.  I hope you enjoy the class and our showcase!

Brandi Long

The Longs are a government-affiliated, homeschooling, Bible-believing, theater-loving, loud family of six. We have been in Stafford since 2008. A bit about myself, I have worked part-time for the past 15 years as a sign-language interpreter. Our family consists of one deaf family member so you may have seen us around CYT events with arms flailing and fingers flying! We have been participating with CYT for the last year and half and sitting in CYT audiences even before that.
