Class Description

In this class, students will acquire the technique, stamina, and stage presence a performer needs for a show-stopping dance number. While improving their ability to tell a story through movement and capture the audience's attention, students will learn routines inspired by the groundbreaking choreography of dance icons Gene Kelly, Jerome Robbins, and Bob Fosse. Warm those "jazz hands" up and prepare to smile until your cheeks hurt as we rehearse for an awe-inspiring showcase!

*Students will need jazz shoes, preferably black, for this class*

*Please note:
~This class may meet on Tuesday, September 3rd, and NOT on Tuesday, October 15th, due to scheduling conflicts with the venue. (This is different than the other class locations, who will have the week of Labor Day off.)
~The showcase date has not yet been confirmed for this class, but will probably be held on Wednesday, October 23rd, most likely at FA.*

Samantha Barrett

Samantha joined CYT in 2013 and performed in eight shows before graduating high school. When she was fifteen, she discovered her passion for teaching while choreographing her first CYT production, "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown." In addition to being a teacher and choreographer at CYT, Samantha teaches dance at STEP VA's summer arts camp and performs with the professional dance company, Company 360. This spring, she will be choreographing CYT's "Beauty and the Beast" and dancing in Company 360's "Dreamt." In the fall, she will be transferring from Germanna to UMW to major in theater.
