Let’s get our creative juices flowing through playwriting! In this class, students will demonstrate their understanding of the basic concepts of playwriting by writing a script of their own original fairy tale. The main concepts of understanding will be plot structure, dialogue, characterization, setting, and genres. This beginning level class will learn scriptwriting through improvising, writing, and refining scripts based on personal experiences and heritage, imagination, literature, and history. If you are someone who has a story to tell and has a desire to see it come to life, this class is just for you! With some fun virtual games added into the mix, this class will be a unique way to experience the magic of theatre.
Teacher:
Anna Hansen
Anna Hansen has been involved with the theatre world since she was little. After graduating Spotsylvania High School in 2006, she taught theatre classes and helped backstage in the early beginnings of CYT Fredericksburg. Soon after, she moved to Harrisonburg to further her education in theatre at Blue Ridge Community College. There, she had the opportunity to stage managed and acted for big shows like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Marriage of Bette and Boo, Dupont Mississippi, and Barefoot in the Park. After marrying her college sweetheart, Patrick, she continued to stay in the Rockingham County area, creating theatre summer camps and directing the Christmas plays at her church. Along with their two kids, Riley and Chance, they felt led to move to Culpeper to be closer to family and she continued to direct the Christmas plays there at her new church. Around that time, she became involved with a wonderful program called Actors, Models, & Talent for Christ (AMTC). Studying from acting coaches and mentors, and casting directors in the entertainment industry in New York, she was able to audition for other casting directors and VPs of big film and theatre businesses. Through that incredible experience, she found a family with Kingdom Bound Productions. She performed as Susan in Mirror Woman and had roles in a couple of their pilot episodes. Finding home once again in her hometown of Spotsylvania, she immediately came back to the CYT family to teach theatre classes and direct shows.
