The appreciation of sign language has gone beyond simply being used as a form of communication for the deaf and hard of hearing. It can also be a visually pleasing form of expression for hearing audiences. In this class, we will attempt up to three of the musical selections from Newsies.  Students will focus on learning the lyrics (as they are translated into ASL), developing appropriate facial expressions and body language, and getting comfortable with emoting the mood and tone of the content.

The Longs are a government-affiliated, homeschooling, Bible-believing, theater-loving, loud family of six. I have worked part-time for the past 17 years as a sign-language interpreter. Our family consists of one deaf family member so you may have seen us around CYT events with arms flailing and fingers flying!
