Class Description

Have you ever watched a wonderful musical with super fun dancing, and thought, "Wow! How Fun? I want to do that!" If you have (or even if you haven't) this class is for you! Throughout this class that is designed for students with disabilities and special needs, we will focus on our gross motor movement and coordination, while having a blast listening and moving to our favorite songs from great musicals. Each class will be filled with repetition, as well as new material. Every week, we will use the things we have learned to create a musical theater number to be performed at the showcase at the end of the session. "It’s time to trust my instincts, close my eyes, and leap!”

**This class is designed for students with disabilities and specials needs.**

*Please note:
~There will be NO class on Tuesday, March 24th, due to a scheduling conflict with the venue. (This is different than the other class locations, who will have their first class that week.) Class time has been extended 5 minutes each week to make up for the lost class.
~The showcase date for this class, will be held on Wednesday, May 20th, location TBD.*

Ellen Konicki

I was born and raised in Buffalo, New York, where I heard the words, "You could dance before you could walk," many times as a child. Growing up, I spent most of my time dancing, my heart out at South Buffalo Dance Academy, my second home. Where, later on, I fulfilled my childhood dream of becoming a dance teacher. I attended the State University of New York at Fredonia; where I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Childhood Education and Special Education. Throughout my time at Fredonia, I enjoyed being an active member of the student run dance company on campus, Orchesis. During my time with Orchesis, I had the opportunity to perform in and choreograph many dances. After I graduated college, I moved to Stafford, VA to become an Elementary Special Education teacher. I enjoy singing and dancing my way through the halls on the way to the copy machine at work, or with my students in the classroom. Over the past three years, I have had the honor of teaching lessons and choreographing pieces for the competition dance team at Gift of Dance Academy. I recently made my CYT debut, as the choreographer for Junie B Jones: the musical. I had a blast and can’t wait to see what CYT has in store for me!
