Description

If you are brand new to sewing or just want to build on the skills you already have, then this is the course for you!

In this introductory class, we will learn how to operate a sewing machine and serger, read and follow basic patterns, learn various stitching techniques, and much more. Throughout the course we will work through 3–4 project-based exercises focusing on accuracy and mastery. In addition, the course has been structured to facilitate a low student to teacher ratio to ensure personalized instruction for varying levels of skill.

Students will be required to supply their own sewing machine, supplies and notions, and fabric for various projects. A supply list and general course syllabus will be provided upon registration.

Teacher:

Holly Benavidez

Holly began serving in the CYT costume department in 2021 when her youngest daughter made her theater debut in the live-streamed production Anne of Green Gables. She went on to serve as Costume Chair for eight shows, proudly learning from and working with the most delightful, talented, and exceptional costumers in Fredericksburg. In 2024, she was blessed and honored to serve on the CYT Artistic Team as Costumer for the musical production of Anastasia. She grew up in Tidewater, Virginia and received her Associate of Applied Science in Graphic Design and Business Arts from Tidewater Community College, as well as her Bachelor of Science in Education from Liberty University. Holly and her husband made Fredericksburg their home in 2009 after being stationed in Germany for four years. They have been married 20 years and have raised two daughters who are lovingly obsessed with CYT and all-things-theater.
