Class Description

Mass exposure of the dance world due to popular competition shows and viral instagram videos has led to a slightly disturbing obsession with daring tricks, extreme flexibility, and endless turns. In this class, we will be going back to the basics! Students will work on their technique, incorporate emotion and meaning behind their movements, and learn the value of hard work and patience in dance (they can’t become mini Misty Copelands and Baryshnikovs overnight!). All levels of experience are encouraged to sign up!

Samantha Barrett

Samantha Barrett is so excited to be teaching this winter! Since she was 4 years old, Sam has been in love with dance. She received training in a variety of styles, including ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, and hip hop. She joined CYT in 2013, performing in a total of eight shows before graduating high school last year. When Sam was fifteen, she discovered her passion for teaching while choreographing her first production, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. After that, she assisted CYT teachers and choreographers, taught dance classes and camps locally, and choreographed A Christmas Story. She is currently a member of the professional dance company, Company 360.
