In this class, we will get hard at work improving our craft in acting. I will provide a simple and straightforward guide for breaking down your beats, connecting to strong motivations that serve the script, and performing powerfully on stage based on David Mamet's Practical Aesthetics. Come prepared to dive in and have fun!
**Please note that this class will NOT have a final showcase. Instead, the 9th week will be an additional, regular night of class.**
I am a proud CYT Fredericksburg student Alumni from 2006-2009. I got my B.A. double major in Drama and Music from the University of Virginia, then came back to Stage Manage, Direct, and teach for CYT. After a year, I went to Regent University to get my M.F.A. in Acting (directing concentration), then worked professionally as an actor for stage, film and TV in Virginia and the southeast. I got married, came back to Fredericksburg, and worked as an Advisor and theater adjunct instructor at Germanna Community College while attaining a second M.F.A., this time in Writing for Stage and Screen from the New Hampshire Institute of Art. I currently work as a Software Engineer at Dahlgren NSWC. Come learn with me!
