Want to learn how to use American Sign Language to improve your theatrical performance? This class focuses on ASL language acquisition and Deaf culture awareness, at the same time as improving key components of theater: facial expressions, body language, physical projection, and dance/movement. In this class concept, we will tackle a musical, allowing you to delve fully into a production and it's music, while mastering lyrics, dance and rhythm through sign language interpretation at any level. It's like Glee club in a foreign language! This session we will tackle: Moana! Learn about the show while learning all about sign.
*Please note: ~There will be NO class on Tuesday, January 28th, due to a scheduling conflict with the venue. (This is different than the other class locations, who will have class that week.) Class time has been extended 15 minutes each week to make up for the lost class. ~The showcase date for this class, will be held on Wednesday, February 12th, most likely at FA.*
Bailey Vincent-LaBarbera (Bailey Anne Vincent) has been teaching and choreographing for over a decade, with favorite styles being ballet, contemporary, Pointe and tap (but, you know, wedding dancing is pretty cool too). After growing up and performing with a pre-professional company in South Florida, she moved to Virginia as a teen and studied as a soloist with the Rockbridge Ballet. Featured in Dance Teacher Magazine for her work with special needs and deaf children, she was a long-running staff member for TheStudio in Lexington, and now performs as a professional modern dancer with DanceArtTheater in Falls Church/DC metro area. She loved choreographing CYT's performance of White Christmas, and can't wait for future projects to come! She is obsessed with macaroni and cheese, coffee, and every formula of mascara known to man (or woman), and is mildly obsessed with all alternative rock from the 90's.... except Creed and Nickleback, obviously.
