Get ready to rewind to the early 2000s! In A Y2K Throwback, students will sing and dance their way through the unforgettable pop culture moments of the new millennium. From iconic boy bands and girl power anthems to the glittery fashion and funky dance moves that defined the era, this high-energy class blends theater, music, and choreography into one nostalgic celebration. Whether you’re channeling Britney, busting out your best Bye Bye Bye moves, or reenacting your favorite MTV music video, this is your chance to shine like it's 2000 all over again!

Learning Objectives:
  • Sing in Harmonies – Understand and perform basic vocal harmonies in small groups.
  • Pitch & Rhythm Training – Improve accuracy in pitch, timing, and tempo.
  • Vocal Style & Expression – Explore pop vocal techniques common in Y2K hits (melisma, riffing, etc.).
  • Support a Lead Singer – Learn to sing background vocals that complement and uplift the lead.
  • Basic Dance Steps – Master foundational moves from popular Y2K music videos and performances.
  • Blocking & Stage Movement – Understand positioning, transitions, and how to move confidently on stage.
  • Synchronization & Group Coordination – Stay in sync with group movements and music cues.
  • Stage Presence & Confidence – Build charisma and comfort performing in front of an audience.
  • Expressive Storytelling – Convey emotion and character through music and dance.

Karina Negron

Karina holds a PhD in STEM and Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and has over ten years of teaching experience in math, science, and art. Karina is certified in mixed-media art and has professional experience in singing, acting, painting, crafting, and jewelry design. Known for her high-energy medleys and classroom environment, she fosters a welcoming atmosphere where every student feels like a Broadway star. She believes in the importance of balancing hard work with creativity and fun, incorporating layered vocal arrangements, team-building exercises, handmade props, and exciting choreographies into her teaching toolkit.
