CYT MISSION
CYT is dedicated to developing character in children and adults through training in the arts and by producing wholesome family entertainment, all of which reflect Judeo-Christian values.WHAT IS CYT?
Christian Youth Theater (CYT) is an after-school theater arts training program for students ages 4 - 18. Since its founding in 1981 in San Diego, CYT has grown to be the largest youth theater in the nation and is a non-profit 501(c)3 educational organization funded primarily through its tuition, ticket sales, and outside contributions.CYT Fredericksburg is one of many CYT affiliates across the country training thousands of students each year and is a licensee of CCT/CYT (Christian Community Theater, located in San Diego, CA). CYT Fredericksburg became it’s own expansion in 2008. Before that, we were a part of CYT Richmond for 3 years. We have been operating with an extremely positive influence in the Fredericksburg community. Kids and families LOVE it.
Because CYT does not own facilities for classes or productions, the organization works through the local community, utilizing classrooms and stages in churches, schools and local theaters. CYT is not affiliated with a church body, and people of all faiths are welcome.
CYT is committed to the highest ethical, moral, technical and artistic standards of excellence. Instructors are professionals, qualified in teaching and/or performing, who must understand our mission statement, values, objectives and goals. The staff of CYT Fredericksburg strives to be excellent role models.
Every session (fall, winter and spring) CYT offers theater arts classes for children as an after-school activity. Each CYT across the country conducts three independent ten-week sessions throughout the school year, teaching drama, voice, dance and a broad spectrum of specialty theatrical workshops at weekly two-hour classes. Financial assistance or partial scholarships are available for those in need and sibling discounts are available to multi-children families. Enrolled students have the opportunity to work behind the scenes, or audition and perform on stage in a Broadway-style musical performed for the community.
CYT GOALS
1. Training children in the performing arts.2. Building leadership skills.
3. Developing a sense of community and fellowship.
4. Providing positive role models for students.
WHAT DOES CYT OFFER?
CLASSES
CYT will offer three class sessions for the 2013-2014 season. Children ages 4-18 are invited to join our classes. The cost for a 10-week session is currently $195 per student. A sibling discount is offered (second child $185, third child $175, etc.)
A wide variety of classes are offered including core classes in drama, voice, and dance, plus specialty classes which vary from session to session. CYT Fredericksburg offers small classes, usually 12-15 students, with adequate supervision both inside the classroom (teacher) and outside the classroom (CYT class coordinator). Each class lasts for two-hours and runs for 10 consecutive weeks. During the 10th class week, a high-energy "SHOWCASE" is presented by each class for the other students as well as family and friends. Every CYT student participates in the showcase.
Classes currently meet 2 different nights in Fredericksburg: Mondays (6:00-8:00pm, 10-weeks) at Chancellor Baptist Church located on Gordon Road and on Tuesdays (6:00-8:00pm, 10-weeks) at Fairview at River Club, located on Route 2 & 17.
STUDIO CLASSES - CYT Fredericksburg offers day and evening classes at the CYT Studio located at 806 Westwood Office Park, conveniently located on Route 3 near Exit 130 off Interstate 95.
SHOWS
CYT Fredericksburg produces at least one Broadway-style musical for the community each session. Upcoming musicals for the 2013-2014 Fredericksburg season are: Annie opening on November 22 and running until December 1, 2013, Peter Pan opening March 7 and closing on March 16, 2014, and our spring show will open June 12 and close on June 15, 2014.
Enrollment in class provides students (ages 8-18) the opportunity to audition for the current production. Approximately 75-90 students are cast in each CYT Fredericksburg production. A $195 per child production fee covers miscellaneous production-related expenses. Additional expenses may include a makeup kit, footwear and a black & white headshot if needed.
Students under the age of 8 or those not cast in the show are encouraged to participate in the production in other ways. Depending on age and ability, students (and siblings) can participate on the backstage crew, technical team, or the costume and make-up committees. Students may also choose to work at the concession stand or help usher.
CYT is a family oriented organization dedicated to providing entertaining activities, which can involve the entire family. As such, at least one parent of each student cast in the production must serve on both a pre-show and a show-week Production Committee. Without the support of parents, CYT could not produce high-quality community shows. Parents are the backbone of CYT!
SUMMER DAY CAMPS
Week-long musical theater summer day camps are offered in two locations around the Fredericksburg area. The cost for day camp is $210 per child (includes t-shirt and snacks). Staff includes professionals from the CYT Production Teams and CYT Alumni Students. Camps are offered for several age categories. Team competitions, rotations through daily drama, dance, music, and craft workshops, a daily theme-related devotional, and an impressive concluding SHOWCASE for family and friends are what CYT Summer Day Camps are all about!
